France: Consuming culture(s)... The dairy kind

Despite the global recession, French cheese consumption grew.

....or maybe my last trip to Paris put a serious dent in the tomme de
Savoie and crottin de chavignol inventories.

I'm all seriousness, I suspect consumers are simply spending less on
luxury goods... Shifting a percentages to luxury foods. It's easier to
justify to ourselves right? I mean come on... You have to eat.

Skype slices the international pie!!

12% of ALL international calls are now placed on Skype.

Apple iTunes Apps: innovative but narrow

no one will argue that the massive open innovation platform Apple has
created in the iTunes store is simply amazing. Over 100,000 apps that
do literally millions of functions. Millions of things to entertain us
or make us more productive in our lives in under three years. The pace
of innovation is staggering. the problem is, the iphone only
represents a blip on the radar compare with over three billion
wireless devices globally. In speaking with a very big named game
publisher, you have heard of them, itunes sales represents 1/60th of
their sales on other app stores. WOW!

Google "TAT augmented ID"

Is this the future of abilitec?

Augmented Social reality

Imagine walking into an NBA game and see all of your friends from
facebook through your VIZUX heads up glasses superimposed over the
fans in the stands... Oh look, there is a Linked In connection over
there in section C... Is that a facebook friend in row 12?

Augmented reality next valentines day

Place a superimposed heart in your girlfriend/wife's front yard so
when she leaves the house, she sees a CGI heart rendered on her lawn
it's like avatar the movie in real life. It uses a laser base
projection system... And the technology is here today. Look up VUZIX
glasses for the iPhone

Augmented Reality

The newest term... Using 3D, CGI and surround sound... Augmented
reality allows real time visual overlays to real objects. An example,
look at your car engine and see a video superimposed over the top
through a heads up display on all of the components and how they
work.... Powered by a mobile device. Imagine how interactive marketing
plays a role here. Diagnose your problem, price shop, order on the
spot before you close your hood., watch a how to install video
overlayed once the part arrives.

WOW!!!!!

Today is about multi-channel marketing

Tomorrow is about "the channel" marketing. The mobile device will
disrupt all other methods of reaching consumers. The question is
simply timing?

Mobile Advertising

Landmarks, products..... Translates dinner menus in real time

Users are going mobile for photo and video sharing in a major way

1.8 billion SMS messages christmas day 2009....41 million MMS
messages. Users are sharing photos and video from mobile at a
staggering rate

Voice on mobile is dying

Tony Holcombe from Syniverse Technologies says that the data show
consumer use of voice while roaming declines each month being replaced
by text messaging, photos, and social media.

Discussion about mobile Internet use

Mobile Internet

People expect to use the mobile Internet the same way they use the
Internet on the PC. Cell Phone operators are headed for a wall on how
to keep up with the bandwidth demands.

Mobile broadband growth

Will grow 10x to 3 billion subscribers in the next 10 years

Hans Vestberg CEO of Ericsson predicts

50 billion devices connected to the Internet by 2020

Mobile subscriber trends

Mobile subscriber will reach 7 billion by 2015... More than people on
the planet

Facebook - The new meth??

Really??  Really??
Is it a fact of our human condition that we can become addicted to anything?  Or is social media telling us something more primal about ourselves... our need for "connections" with other people whether in person or virtual.  As marketers, when we think about how we use social media, we should take a look at human behaviors.

1. You lose sleep over Facebook
"If you're staying up late at night because you're on Facebook, and you're tired the next day, Facebook may be a compulsion for you," Lipari said. "You shouldn't be neglecting yourself because of Facebook."
2. You spend more than an hour a day on Facebook
Pile says it's hard to pinpoint exactly how much is too much time to be spending on social networking.
"I can't imagine that anyone would need more than an hour a day on Facebook, and probably no one needs more than 30 minutes," she said.
3. You become obsessed with old loves
Reconnecting with old friends is one of the great attractions of Facebook, and there's nothing necessarily wrong with "friending" an old boyfriend or girlfriend. But Pile warns that it can get out of hand very quickly.
"One of my clients met up with an old boyfriend on Facebook. They started spending hours and hours into the night talking to each other on Facebook. She made some really inappropriate comments about how unhappy she was in her marriage," Pile said. "Her cousin saw the comments and told her parents, and the parents told the husband, and now they're in the process of getting divorced."
4. You ignore work in favor of Facebook
"If you're not doing your job in order to sneak time on Facebook, you could have a real problem," Lipari said.
5. The thought of getting off Facebook leaves you in a cold sweat
Sarah Browne, who writes the Guru of New blog, gave up Facebook for Lent last month when she realized that she had a "mild" addiction to the site. She's come up with "Seven Signs You May Be Ready for a Social Media Detox."

Internet Website = Facebook fan page??

Experts suggest that every company that has a website on the internet will ultimately have a Facebook fan page.  Really?  Really?

Services now comb the public profiles of Facebook and map user's affinities to these fan pages.  I smell customers who fan X also fan Y.

Super Bowl XLIV Commercials Forecasted to cost $0.03 per viewer

This year's Super Bowl XLIV commercials are forecasted to cost $3 Million per 30 second spot.  An estimated 100,000,00 viewers are expected to tune it.  That equates to three cents per viewer reached.  Not bad economics.
