A Belief in Education and Opportunity

I can still remember him standing there in the early morning. Hair graying, back turned to you, with the rising sun silhouetting him against the mountain backdrop in the window. “Patrick” he would say, “Once you get your education, they can never take that away from you.” He knew all to well. Growing up in the depression era south, he had dropped out of school in the eighth grade to help feed his younger brother and sister.

My grandfather, J.M. "Jack" Bewley instilled in me a belief in the importance of education. I think that same belief in education will make a difference in Arkansas. -JPB
